Hormone-Smart Living: Working With Your Body in Midlife

Hey girl!
By the time you reach your 40s, your body starts to change—and not always in ways you expect. Workouts that used to feel effective might leave you exhausted. Eating the same way you always have might not give you the same energy. It’s easy to feel like something is “off,” but the truth is, your body isn’t broken. Your hormones are shifting, and your approach needs to shift with them.
During perimenopause and menopause, changes in estrogen and other hormones can impact everything from energy levels to recovery time to how your body responds to stress. This is where hormone-smart living comes in. It’s not about doing less—it’s about doing what works better. Strength training becomes even more important for maintaining muscle and bone health. Recovery matters more. And fueling your body consistently becomes key for keeping energy stable and supporting overall well-being.
I’ve had to walk this out personally. Entering menopause earlier than I expected forced me to pay closer attention to what my body actually needed. I couldn’t just rely on the workouts and routines that worked in my 30s. I had to adjust—being more intentional with strength training, prioritizing recovery, and making sure my nutrition supported my energy instead of leaving me depleted. It wasn’t always a smooth transition, but learning to honor my hormone shifts helped me feel more in control and more connected to my body.
This is what working with your body looks like. Paying attention. Adjusting without guilt. Letting go of the idea that you need to push harder to see results. When your workouts, nutrition, and recovery align with what your body needs in this season, things start to feel more sustainable. More supportive. And honestly, a whole lot less frustrating!
If this resonated with you and you want to go deeper, this month on The Sana Vida Pod, I’m breaking all of this down in a real-life, easy-to-follow way. We’re talking workouts, nutrition, and how to actually support your hormones without the overwhelm. Tune in and let’s figure this out together! (You can also check out the pod on Spotify or Apple Podcasts 👍🏾)
Always cheering for you! ❤️
